CO2 emissions up, up, UP !!

I wish everyone would watch this little movie

Wake Up, Freak Out - then Get a Grip from Leo Murray on Vimeo.

Why?

The CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and cement increased by 2.9% from the previous year – which is faster than the 2.7% predicted by the IPCC in their worst case scenario.
China is now the top emitter (well, since most stuff we buy here is now made in China, it's not surprising). India is heading up to the number three spot, displacing Russia.

The Global Carbon Project just published the 2007 figures.

I cannot say I'm surprised, so far I've seen a lot of greenwashing and talk and very little action.

I hope people will sit up and take notice but I'm not expecting it.

Professor Barry Brook, director of the Research Institute for Climate Change and Sustainability at the University of Adelaide in Australia said the rise in CO2 emissions would speed up global warming.

He said CO2 concentrations could hit 450 ppm by 2030 instead of 2040 as currently predicted. They are currently just above 380 ppm.

"But whatever the specific date, 450 ppm CO2 commits us to 2ºC global warming and all the disastrous consequences this sets in train," he said.
